The day the first 100 arrived

One hundred day-old chicks. A second-hand brooder. A 4 a.m. start. This is the story of how Miah Farms began — and what we have learned in our first year about disease control, locally sourced feed, and the discipline it takes to keep a flock alive.

When we started, we did not have all the answers. We had a savings-and-loan group, a vision for what poultry could mean for young people in our region, and the conviction that the way most chickens in Uganda are already raised — uncaged, foraging — was worth more than the market was paying for it.
